Masonry Coating FAQs

It's Time to Smarten Up

Why should I coat my property external walls?

Dampness is a common problem that can damage your property over time. The UK can often be a cold and damp place for much of the time, particularly over a long winter. There may also be areas around your property which get very little sunlight no matter the time of year. By applying a damp-proof coating, you create a barrier that prevents moisture from penetrating the walls. This helps to keep the interior dry and free from issues like mould, mildew, and damp odours.

What damage can be caused by doing nothing?

Excessive moisture can weaken the structural integrity of your property. Over time, it can cause the walls to crack, deteriorate, or even develop structural issues. A damp-proof coating acts as a protective layer, reducing the chances of water seepage, which can contribute to such problems.

How will I know if my property needs attention?

Dampness often leads to unsightly stains, discoloration, and peeling paint on walls. By applying a damp-proof coating, you can maintain the visual appeal of your property. It keeps the walls clean, prevents water stains, and ensures that your property looks well-maintained.

Can this dampness also affect the insides of the house?

Yes if left completely untreated the moisture will penetrate the outer brickwork or render and then make it's way gradually to the inner plasterboard of your rooms. Mould and damp will then appear as a dark unsightly stain which then will spread and be difficult to get rid of.

Are there any other benefits of weathercoating my property?

Damp walls tend to retain and conduct heat less efficiently. By coating your walls against dampness, you will undoubtedly improve the thermal performance of your property. It helps in maintaining a consistent temperature indoors and reduces the need for excessive heating or cooling, leading to energy savings which in today's world could make quite a difference financially.
